Buster's Story...
What happens on an average day? Well let’s follow ‘Buster’ through his first grooming session.
‘Buster ‘ gets dropped in the morning and we discuss his routine, I am trying to envisage a trim that will suit his life style and the families time available to keep his coat in between visits, for example there is no point in torturing ‘Buster’ and brushing him out to a long flowing coat when he spends every waking moment in the river swimming. Not to mention the mess he makes at home as that long coat brings home half the riverbank and drops it all over the kitchen floor as it dries. Also his ‘mom’ has enough on her plate trying to run around with the kids in a day not to mention the husband, where on earth is she going to find a half hour a day to fit in brushing poor ‘Buster’?
Having sent his Mom and Dad off home ‘Buster’ gets popped up on the table and the pampering begins.
Before his bath he will get a manicure, a pedicure and the excess hair from between his toes will be trimmed. While we are at his feet we are also checking for any thing unusual sore toes, broken nails, evidence of grass mites and so on.
Next the embarrassing bits get clipped and cleaned around.’ Buster’ has asked me not to discuss this much, he’s too shy. Again we are watching out for anything that shouldn’t be there.
Depending on what is happening next ‘Buster’ may get a trim at this stage or it may be straight in to the bath! First we check him over for any visitors, fleas or ticks and deal with them accordingly.
A good scrub is always needed and usually welcome. Warm water makes such a change, for ‘Buster’, from the cold hose out the back and he tied to the washing line.’Busters’ anal glands are checked and emptied if necessary, not a pleasant job for either of us, but needs must!
Next it’s the drying depending on the amount and thickness of coat this could take a couple of hours, luckily we have a specially built dryer for dogs that they can hop in to and have a snooze for what ever time it takes to get him dry.
All dry and clean we begin the final phase of his make over, much clipping and scissoring happening now and time for Buster to be patient and stand still so we can get the best shape and style for him.
Phew it’s a long day for all concerned!
Buster is finally finished and feeling all full of himself with his new look, he’s going to flirt with that retriever down the park tonight!
Mom and Dad call back to collect him at about 4.30pm and ‘Buster’ does the best twirl he can, showing off his fancy new look. Walking out with his tail held high, he’s ready to take on the river!
